[NEWS] SNSD Hyoyeon Investigated by Police for Hitting Male Friend

Along with all the pranks that occurred on April Fool’s Day, news of a Girls’ Generation member getting investigated for assault slipped in. 

On April 1, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul stated that a member of SNSD was investigated by police on the night of March 30. The story goes that Hyoyeon and a male friend were playing around at an acquaintance’s second floor house in Seobbinggo when the issue happened. 

Hyoyeon joked to the male friend that she was going to jump off, and as the male friend tried to hold her back, she tried to push him away from her, hitting him near the eye during the process. 

The male friend called the police for an assault charge. The male friend and Hyoyeon were investigated by police twice on March 30 and March 31. 

The male friend said during the police investigation, “I reported it saying I got hit while we were playing around, but after I thought about it again, I don’t think she hit me on purpose.”

The police also stated, “Since it was reported, we processed the charge, but because the entire case was just a happening, we concluded as ‘cleared of suspicion of assault.’

SM Entertainment later stated in a press release on April 1, "Hyoyeon was playing around with a friend when the joke escalated and a misunderstanding happened, leading to the police report. But the misunderstanding was cleared up and ended as an incident. We′ll be more careful to not create misunderstandings."

The agency added that the police told the two to not play around too seriously.
